Work In Progress

On this page, I will be posting a project step by step to give you some insight as to how a project develops from start to finish. I typically start with some idea or visual that has inspired me. I then begin a series of sketches to lay out overall composition and plot color schemes I will be using. Once I have the basic layout finished, I transfer the drawing to my board or canvas. This is done either freehand or with a projector. I then begin with a finished pencil drawing on board, although the final image may quite different from what I visualized. I usually add, subtract, or change several aspects of the painting as it progresses. This will be the case with this painting, as I have no idea yet what I will do in some areas.

I am working on Crescent hot press illustration board. I use Golden and Comart paint through an Iwata Custom Micron airbrush and an Iwata Smart Jet compressor. I use Prismacolor pencils for details.

     Step One

This is a new piece.

You may recognize my model Seffana. She is a gem to work with! She has a perfect look for my work, and is a great contributor to the art.

I am not totally done sketching, but I will be painting soon. Notice the rough idea of a creepy figure in the window!

As you can see, most details are already lined in. It is much easier to plan the basic layout at the beginning, as the airbrush is not so forgiving if I decide to make major changes in the middle of the painting process.

The size of this piece is about 15x20.

I will keep this page updated as I work through each stage of the painting!

Stay tuned for more!
